Housekeeping’s important role in Cape Town’s tourism season
As Cape Town gears up for its peak tourist season, the spotlight turns to the often-overlooked heroes of the hospitality industry – the housekeeping staff.
Housekeeping staff work tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring every guest enjoys a clean, safe and comfortable environment during their stay. In an industry where first impressions and lasting memories are built on the comfort and cleanliness of the space, their contribution is nothing short of important. Without their commitment to high standards, the seamless experiences guests enjoy would simply not be possible.
Maureen Fester, housekeeping manager at Radisson RED Cape Town, says housekeeping is more than just cleaning rooms. “It’s about creating a welcoming environment where guests feel at home. We take pride in ensuring every detail, no matter how small, is taken care of. It’s the little things that make the biggest difference in a guest’s experience, and our team is committed to going above and beyond to provide that.”
Radisson RED’s housekeeping team consists of dedicated individuals who work diligently to maintain the hotel’s high standards.
Memory Chidembo, a linen attendant, highlights the significance of her role: “Every linen we prepare, every room we refresh, we do it with the guest in mind. Our work might go unnoticed by many, but we know how important it is to create a comfortable and pleasant stay for each guest.”
With the busy tourist season in Cape Town about to start, the efforts of housekeeping teams become even more crucial. Tourists from across the globe visit the city, drawn by its beauty and vibrant culture. Housekeeping staff across the city ensures each visitor’s stay reflects the warmth and hospitality for which Cape Town is renowned.
“Our guests might not always see us, but they experience the results of our work,” says Nomonde Matshikiza, the hotel’s housekeeping assistant manager. “Whether it’s a freshly made bed, spotless rooms or the comfort of knowing they’re in a clean environment, we are here to make sure they leave with positive memories of their time in Cape Town.”
