JAC Motors launches eco-friendly X200 EV 1.9-tonne forward-cab
In another first for JAC Motors South Africa, it has introduced the world’s first right-hand-drive battery-electric X200 EV forward-cab.
Expanding its leadership in the local battery electric vehicle (BEV) truck market, the new versatile X200 EV 1.9-tonne provides transport operators with a sustainable, eco-friendly, cost-effective solution tailored for smaller payloads amid evolving logistics requirements.

Economical, versatile and safe for diverse applications
Mirroring the advanced propulsion system of the N75 EV, the X200 EV features a reliable synchronous electric motor generating 50kW (105kW peak power) and 140/300Nm, delivering instant torque. The X200 EV is powered by a 63.75kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery with a 200Ah capacity.
With a fully charged battery, the X200 EV offers a range of up to 230km, depending on load and traffic conditions. It supports both European CCS2 AC and DC charging standards. Charging the X200 EV from 20% to 80% with a DC fast charger takes 35 minutes, while a full charge requires 90 minutes. Regenerative braking helps extend battery life and range.

Robust chassis design
The X-Series features JAC Motors’ new heavy-duty ladder-frame chassis with rear integral bridge support, crafted using an advanced stamping and welding treatment process for enhanced durability and strength. The main advantage of a rugged, lightweight chassis frame is its optimal axle weight distribution, which improves safety and makes it robust for various body applications.
Unlike the rest of the X-Series line-up, the new X200 EV features leaf springs at the front and rear, providing improved stability regardless of the payload it carries.
Additionally, the optimal use of axle capacities for ideal payload weight distribution ensures the safety of the driver, passengers and cargo, no matter the conditions.
With electric power steering, the 5.75-metre turning radius enhances manoeuvrability in tight parking spaces and loading bays. It features 195/70 R15 tyres mounted on steel rims.
The X200 EV, like the rest of the X-Series, features large front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, supported by ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) for superior stopping power and safety. Additional safety features include ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and HAS (Hill-Start Assist System), ensuring enhanced safety.
Comfortable cab designed to improve driver comfort and safety
The X200 EV is equipped with daytime running lights and rear fog lamps for added safety. Its elevated driving position improves traffic visibility and road judgement, enhances parking precision at loading bays, and provides easy entry and exit – an essential advantage for drivers and crews handling frequent stop-and-drop operations.
The X200 EV features crumple zones, side-impact protection bars and a height-adjustable three-point safety belt for the driver, a three-point belt for the passenger, and a lap belt for a third passenger. An alarm sensor reminds the crew to fasten their seat belts. Remote-controlled central locking with motion lock at 40km/h and height-adjustable headlamps ensure the safe transportation of cargo and crew.
Interior upgrades like an electronic instrument cluster and a centre console with a Bluetooth-enabled touchscreen radio/MP3 player and USB port also form part of the new X200 EV’s features. It also offers ample storage, including convenient roof storage for the driver and passengers.
The X200 EV features an Electronic Rotary Switch for easy and safe operation. Additional comforts include a height-adjustable multi-function steering wheel with Audio and Cruise Control, rear parking sensors, factory-fitted air-conditioning with climate control, electric windows and fabric seats with headrests for a comfortable and secure drive.
