LG unveils AI-powered future of home living

LG Electronics has unveiled its pioneering vision for future living at IFA 2024 in Berlin, Germany, showcasing a comprehensive range of AI home solutions under the theme: “Experience, Affectionate Intelligence (AI) Home”.

The exhibition highlighted how LG’s advanced artificial intelligence technology will transform everyday living spaces into intelligent, responsive environments that adapt to users’ needs and preferences.

LG ThinQ ON: The heart of the AI home

At the heart of LG’s AI home ecosystem is ThinQ ON, an advanced AI home hub designed to deliver unparalleled comfort and convenience. LG introduced ThinQ ON as the central platform that seamlessly integrates with the company’s latest AI appliances, forming the core of the LG AI Home Solution.

Powered by LG’s Affectionate Intelligence, an empathetic AI technology, ThinQ ON showcased its ability to learn users’ routines, preferences and behaviours. This learning capability allows the system to create a personalised spatial experience, bringing greater ease to everyday life. LG demonstrated ThinQ ON’s sophisticated generative AI technology and natural language understanding capabilities, which enable users to control a wide range of appliances, IoT devices and services using conversational voice commands.

The company emphasised ThinQ ON’s role in creating a truly personalised AI home lifestyle, capable of managing various aspects of daily life: from adjusting home environments to assisting with lifestyle services and even helping children with bedtime routines.

Innovative AI solutions for every household

LG’s exhibit at IFA 2024 featured a range of AI-powered solutions designed to cater to diverse household needs:

Elderly care solutions

LG presented AI technologies aimed at enhancing the lives of older adults. These solutions simplify household chores and enrich leisure activities through voice recognition and seamless co-ordination of home appliances. For instance, the system can automatically set the dryer to the appropriate mode after the washing machine completes its cycle, and provide voice briefings to inform users about daily schedules and tasks.

Family and pet care

LG introduced the Self-Driving AI Home Hub for households with children and pets. This innovative system adjusts device settings and environmental conditions to support children’s routines, including features like Sleep Mode that creates an optimal environment for bedtime. For pet owners, LG unveiled the AeroCat, a novel appliance combining a cat bed with an air purifier, alongside AI-controlled air purifiers and robot vacuums that maintain a clean, fresh home environment.

Smart kitchen solutions

LG showcased AI-powered kitchen appliances that create a more convenient culinary experience. The company showed how ThinQ ON can provide personalised recipe recommendations and nutritional analysis. LG also presented AI ovens with built-in cameras and the InstaView™ with MoodUP™ refrigerator, highlighting how these smart appliances can enhance the cooking and food storage experience.

Energy management

In line with growing environmental concerns, LG introduced its Smart Green Home concept. This system features high-efficiency appliances including the advanced Therma V™ R290 Monobloc air-to-water heat pump and state-of-the-art HVAC systems. LG demonstrated how its AI optimises household energy usage in real time, adjusting device settings and schedules according to users’ lifestyles and routines while accounting for electricity rate fluctuations.

Expanding the AI home ecosystem

LG also emphasised the scalability of its AI ecosystem, showcasing how ThinQ ON integrates with various IoT sensors and devices to provide real-time spatial information for personalised AI-driven home services. The company highlighted its open AI ecosystem, which can integrate third-party services and even connect non-AI appliances to the AI Home system through IoT sensors.

Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, commented on the exhibition: “Our Affectionate Intelligence Home solutions enable customers to experience the ease of the Zero Labour Home, where they can enjoy a life free from mundane household chores. We will continue to lead the AI home era with our Affectionate Intelligence solutions and state-of-the-art core technologies.”
