Motshabi Mokone new NMG Administrators Botswana CEO

NMG Administrators Botswana (NMG) is proud to announce the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Motshabi Mokone, an experienced financial services industry leader, who joined NMG on 20 July 2022.

Motshabi has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience working at various reputable organisations within Botswana. Motshabi is a skilled strategist with a proven track record of transforming strategic plans into workable solutions, a visionary leader and a performance driven executive with expertise in optimizing operational processes. She is an advocate for the support of the advancement of women in leadership within the financial services industry.  This is evidenced by the mentorship services she provides to young and upcoming female leaders within the financial services industry in Botswana as well as South Africa. Within her career, Motshabi has been in roles that have required strong stakeholder engagement skills and has learnt to interact effectively at all levels with various stakeholders.

Prior to her appointment as Chief Executive Officer of NMG Administrators Botswana, Motshabi was the Managing Director of Absa Life Botswana for approximately 9 years. Her role essentially comprised of providing strategic direction, financial and operational leadership for Absa Life Botswana, working with the Board of Directors and senior leadership within the Absa Group. Prior to that, she worked at Alexander Forbes Financial Services in various capacities, with her most recent role being Chief Operations Officer and Executive Director. During her tenure at Alexander Forbes, she was responsible for small and large pension funds in the Botswana market, including the largest pension fund in the Botswana market, being the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF). Other employers include Stanbic Bank Botswana and First National Bank Botswana, where her financial services career commenced.

Motshabi has essentially completed a full circle in joining NMG Administrators Botswana, as the Chief Executive Officer, taking up the responsibility of fund administration for the BPOPF and tasked with leading and inspiring the executive team, ideating, defining and communicating strategic objectives, whilst empowering senior leadership to deliver effectively on the goals and objectives of NMG Administrators Botswana.  

Motshabi has a Master of Science degree in Strategic Management as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in insurance, finance and economics. She is passionate about strategy, and as a result, has acquired numerous executive development qualifications in strategy, innovation and leadership.

She is also a founding Executive Member of the Association of Life Underwriters Botswana and was the Deputy President of the Association until her departure from the insurance industry.

NMG Administrators Botswana was appointed as the Fund Administrator for the BPOPF and took over administration of the fund from 1 June 2021.  NMG Administrators Botswana is the largest retirement funds administrator in Botswana, licensed by the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority and forms part of the NMG Group, which is a global advisory and intermediary firm focused exclusively on the financial services sector. The NMG Group comprises NMG Consulting, a specialist consultancy business focused on the insurance and investment industry; NMG Benefits, an employee benefit consulting and administration business in Africa; and NMG Capital, a private equity business investing in financial services entities.

Mr. Jacky Mathekga, the Chief Executive Officer at NMG Benefits, and NMG Administrators Botswana’s technical partner, said Motshabi’s vision for the industry and extensive experience across the financial services sector, would allow her to build on the company’s existing market position.
