Servier 2026 Adherence Month campaign: “Stay on Track, One Day at a Time”

Servier South Africa has announced its 2026 Adherence Month initiative, themed “Stay on Track, One Day at a Time”: a focused campaign supporting patients living with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and other long-term diseases.
Poor adherence to prescribed treatment regimens is a well-documented barrier to effective chronic disease management. As Dr Derek Yach, executive director for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health at the World Health Organization, states: “Poor adherence is the primary reason for not achieving the full health benefits medicines can provide to patients. It causes medical and psychosocial complications of disease, reduces patients’ quality of life, increases the likelihood of development of drug resistance and wastes health care resources.”
This campaign reframes adherence as a manageable daily commitment rather than an overwhelming lifelong obligation, emphasising that consistent, small daily actions help improve health stability.
Evidence from clinical research highlights the serious consequences of non-adherence. According to Patel et al., 2025: “Non-adherence to prescribed treatment regimens in chronic diseases has serious consequences for the patient, contributing to morbidity and increasing mortality.”
The same study also notes: “In chronic conditions, including hypertension, diabetes and kidney diseases, poor adherence can lead to increased rates of organ damage and cardiovascular events.”
Supporting adherence with structured interventions has been shown to improve patient outcomes. As reported in a South African study: “In underdeveloped nations, treatment non-adherence continues to be a significant barrier to effective disease management.”
The study further states: “Patients who do not take their medications as prescribed may be at higher risk for negative health consequences.”
These findings reinforce the campaign’s message that small, repeatable daily actions can help patients stay on track and maintain stable health outcomes.
Messaging extends across diabetes, hypertension and related chronic conditions under the Own Your Number platform.
