Advancing sustainable and responsible tourism practices in Eswatini

2 min read

Tourism leaders, government representatives, businesses and community stakeholders will gather on 28 April 2026 for the International Responsible Tourism Conference, an important platform aimed at advancing sustainable and responsible tourism practices in Eswatini.

Hosted at Piggs Peak Hotel, the conference will take place under the theme, “From Commitment to Action: Advancing Responsible Tourism in Eswatini”. The event will bring together policymakers, tourism operators, academics and community leaders to explore practical strategies for strengthening responsible tourism and ensuring tourism development benefits local communities, protects the environment and celebrates Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.

Key discussions will focus on:

  • Strengthening partnerships between government, municipalities and the private sector.
  • Financing sustainable tourism initiatives.
  • Community participation and local economic development.
  • Cultural preservation and authentic visitor experiences.
  • Practical action plans for responsible tourism across Eswatini.

Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with local initiatives and experiences that demonstrate how tourism can positively impact communities such as Piggs Peak and surrounding rural areas.

Organisers hope the conference will move beyond discussion and lead to concrete action that strengthens Eswatini’s tourism sector while supporting local communities and protecting natural resources.

Piggs Peak, located in the scenic northern region of Eswatini near the Matsamo Border Post, offers an ideal setting for discussions on responsible travel and community-based tourism.
